The Lion King has been a staple on Broadway for 20 years, and to celebrate the anniversary show, Elton John made a surprise appearance to perform “Circle of Life”!

The Lion King the musical first debuted on November 13, 1997 at the New Amsterdam Theater. “Since its debut 20 years ago, 24 global productions of The Lion King have been seen by more than 90 million people in over 100 cities across 19 countries, on every continent except Antarctica.”

Elton John, who co-wrote much of the music for Disney movie and the musical adaptation, made an appearance at the 20th anniversary performance of the show, and sung out “Circle Of Life” with the support of 100 cast alumni behind him.

Elton John celebrated the evening alongside the entire creative team, as well as lyricist Tim Rice (pictured below) and stage director Julie Taymor.
