Why people choose to re-release things on tape I will never know, why not just re-release it on 8 track or a hurdy-gurdy? (yes the title of that Donovan song is really a thing).  It seems very hipster, it wouldn’t surprise me if the tape arrives in a mason jar and was made from the plastic from all of Elton John’s old sunglasses.

It must be the nostalgia thing because they sell out fast and I would imagine it won’t be much different for this one.

It was back in 1989 at McCartney’s Hog Hill Mill Studio in East Sussex, England that the Elvis Costello and Paul McCarteny paired up.  Costello was there to co-produce “Flowers in the Dirt”. But they ended up doing more songs together than expected. Most of the songs ended up on some later releases from both of the musicians.

But Sir. Paul McCarteny has decided to give you a little treat.  There will be a limited-edition cassette of the McCartney/Costello demos will come out on Record Store Day.  It is interesting to hear how the demos evolved into the released song, even if it is on cassette.

Record store day is April 22nd.
