During a recent Foo Fighters concert in Auckland, the band continued their tradition of performing area-specific live cover songs, this time with Jack Black of Tenacious D joining them on stage for a surprise performance of AC/DC’s “Big Balls.” The unexpected collaboration featured Black taking on vocal duties alongside Fiona Jeans, the Foos’ drum tech.

The connection between Jack Black and Foo Fighters’ frontman, Dave Grohl, spans over two decades, starting with their collaboration on Tenacious D’s acclaimed 2001 self-titled debut album. Beyond music, Black and Grohl have also collaborated in the film industry, with Grohl joining in Tenacious D’s 2006 film, “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.”

Jack Black, currently in New Zealand for the filming of a movie adaptation of the popular video game Minecraft, added his star power to the Foo Fighters’ rendition of “Big Balls.” Following their performances in Christchurch and Wellington later in the week, Foo Fighters will take a three-month break from touring. The band is set to resume their international tour, including festival and stadium appearances throughout the summer, with notable dates at New York’s Citi Field on July 17 and 19.
