On September 29, U2 will launch a multi-date residency at the Sphere- a brand-new round venue at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas.

The dates for the upcoming “U2: UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere” were announced today by Live Nation and Sphere Entertainment to be September 29-30, and October 5, 7, and 8.

The Venetian’s Sphere has state-of-the-art audio and visual systems. With 580,000 square feet of programmable 2K LED screens that wrap around the audience, and a multi-layered audio system with thousands of speakers, the building is the largest spherical structure in the world, with a 20,000-capacity venue inside.

“This is a venue designed for entertainment, not sports,” said U2 guitarist The Edge. He first learned about the cutting-edge venue after lead singer Bono sent him a link about the concept. He said the screen is 20 times bigger than the one during the band’s Joshua Tree tour in 2019 — the last time U2 performed live in a concert setting.

Here’s a quick clip posted to Apple Music and U2’s Instagram pages of them visiting the venue:

These shows will mark their first time performing without drummer Larry Mullen Jr., who is recovery from back surgery.
