When it comes to the world of “Playing What We Want”, there aren’t many bands we enjoy spinning more than Depeche Mode. Maybe it’s fond memories of $1 pizza on Granville Street after a night our a Luv-A-Fair, or sneaking out of our bedroom as teenagers with our boombox and the only cassette inside being “Music For The Masses”, either way, Depeche Mode is a big part of what we do on JACK so it’s heartbreaking to hear of the passing of founding member or keyboardist Andy “Fletch” Fletcher at the young age of 60.

Fletcher’s band mates confirmed his death on social media:

Fletcher was born July 8, 1961 in Nottingham, United Kingdom. In his 40 year career with Depeche Mode, Andy Fletcher was a founding member of the band performing on their 1981 debut album “Speak and Spell”  and remining with the band until their most recent album in 2017 “Spirit” ultimately being inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame with his bandmates in 2020.

Fletcher used to joke at length about his role in Depeche Mode, once saying “Dave is the singer, Martin is the songwriter, Alan is the great musician and I just bum around,” jokes Fletcher in the band’s 1989 documentary 101.

R.I.P Andy, you’ll be missed.
