It’s happening! After months of rumours, Sony Pictures has announced a Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody. We wonder if it will cover how she became every woman.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • The movie will star Naomi Ackie as Whitney Houston and features Ashton Sanders as Bobby Brown, Houston’s husband for fifteen years and Stanley Tucci as Music Producer and A&R Executive, Clive Davis.
  • I Wanna Dance With Somebody will be directed by Kasi Lemmons and written and produced by Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody).
  • Grammy-winning producer Clive Davis will serve as an Executive Producer
  • Pre-production on the film started August 20, 2021. In October and November, scenes were shot in Arlington, Massachusetts as well as at the Worcester Regional Airport, Wang Theater and Cutler Majestic Theatre and Gillette Stadium.
  • I Wanna Dance With Somebody will be co-produced by The Whitney Houston Estate and Primary Wave. Thanks to the green-light from Houston’s estate and Clive Davis, the project has been authorized to use the late singer’s catalog and vocals.
  • Whitney Houston is still regarded as one of the most iconic and influential artists of all time. Even after her untimely death eight years ago at the age of 48, her legacy continues to live.
  • Whitney Houston has been awarded the title of ‘Most Awarded Female Artist of All Time’ by the Guinness World Records and is still one of the best-selling music artists of all time with 200 million records sold worldwide.
  • Whitney Houston made her acting debut film, The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner (soundtrack went 18x Platinum thanks to “I Will Always Love You.”). The Bodyguard was the second highest-grossing film worldwide in 1992.

  • A Whitney Houston hologram? “An Evening with Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour” is a posthumous concert tour featuring a projected image of American singer Whitney Houston. The tour began in Europe on February 25, 2020, and is scheduled to end after a residency in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day 2023. (Source: Wikipedia)
