On Saturday, September 3rd, we were treated to a 6-hour mega-music-marathon live from Wembley Stadium in London in celebration of the life of late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. During these 6 hours, we went through all the emotions as his life was celebrated by bandmates, friends, his heroes and family.

The concert was a fun event to stream live, mostly due to the fact that Dave Grohl was so involved playing bass, drums and guitar all night, video montages of Taylor and so many incredible moments on stage that you knew were once-in-a-lifetime pop culture moments you’d remember forever.

If you missed the concert or just want to relive some of it, we’ve put together our favourite moments, and would love to know what yours were.

Shane Hawkins playing drums on My Hero

It was the moment of the night. Taylor Hawkins’ 16 year old son Oliver Shane Hawkins jumped on stage with the Foo Fighters to play My Hero, you know he made his dad proud!

Violet Grohl & Friends – Valerie (Amy Winehouse cover)

Wow, can Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet sing. Her show-stopping moment on the ‘B’ Stage singing the Amy Winehouse hit Valerie was an incredible showcase of her talent. On the MTV live feed, you can see Dave Grohl, Shane Hawkins, Pat Smear and others all sitting together side stage watching with big smiles on their faces.

Brian May – Love Of My Life

If you’ve seen Queen live in recent years, you know the part of the show when Brian May takes his acoustic up to the front of the stage and performs a tribute to the late Freddie Mercury, he performed that same song in tribute to Taylor Hawkins. Wembley Stadium lit up like a Christmas tree in one of the most incredible moments of the eveing.

How about Wolfgang Van Halen jamming Hot For Teacher with Dave Grohl!?

Nandi Bushell joining the Foo Fighters for Learn To Fly

Remember during COVID when then 9 year old Nandi Bushell challenged Dave Grohl to a drum off, the two went back and forth for about a year exchanging drum solos until it all culminated live on stage in Los Angeles at the Forum, and again in NYC at Madison Square Garden … Nandi joined the band once again in tribute to one of her heroes Taylor Hawkins for a killer version of Learn To Fly. She feels like a part of the Foo Fighters family so there was a special kind of comfort that came over the stage when the performed at the show.

Liam Gallagher w/ the Foo Fighters – Rock ‘N’ Roll Star

This was a great way to kick off the concert, letting us know it would be a celebration rather than a somber themed event. Liam Gallagher is royalty in the UK so kicking the show off with the hometown hero set the pace for the entire event.

This show was truly one of a kind, even when September 27th rolls around the the next Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert goes down in L.A. it will be special, but not the same as this one. This was the first Foo Fighters performance as a band since Taylor’s passing, emotions were set to high, there aren’t many crowds that can compete with a London crowd and it was the first. We can’t wait for the L.A. concert of course, but we’re really glad we got to watch this one as it happened. Thank you MTV for streaming it.
