There are things that happen in the universe that make you question “how”?

How was Stonehenge built? How do they get the caramel inside a Caramilk bar? Why are you looking at us like that? We still wonder…

But no one can wonder how Weird Al Yankovic earned a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame! You see, in the ’80s every time a new song hit the airwaves, not too far behind it was Weird Al Yankovic with a crazy parody version (that in some cases blew away the original). More times than not you knew the lyrics to the Weird Al accordion version of a song better than you did the original. Go ahead, sing “Like A Virgin”, we dare you to not sing “Like A Surgeon”.

We understand Al. Like us, he doesn’t take himself too seriously, so we thought as congratulations for his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame we wanted to shine a light on our top 6 favourite Weird Al Yankovic songs. We hope Al will do something nice for us when we get our star!

“Another One Rides The Bus” (1979)

Weird Al made his U.S TV debut on the Tom Snyder show with a parody of the Queen classic “Another One Bites The Dust”. This is the one that got it all started.

“I Lost On Jeopardy” (1984)

Brilliant!

“Eat It” (1984)

Both Jeff & Paul from JACK Mornings with Jeff, Charis and Paul selected this song as their favourite. As Paul put it: “It’s about food, and I love food” … say no more Paul!

“Living With A Hernia” (1986)

Only James Brown himself could have done better. This one was an instant classic.

“Smells Like Nirvana” (1992)

A little tip of the cap to Kurt & Co. How did he get all those marbles in his mouth?

“Amish Paradise” (1996)

Charis cherry picked this one as her favourite. She sat backwards on a chair while she told us how much she loves this song.

So many classics to choose from over his great career. What’s your favourite Weird Al Yankovic song? Tell us on Twitter @jack969van

JACK FACT: Rick Derringer (“Rock ‘N’ Roll Hoochie Koo“) used to play in Weird Al’s band?
