It’s a sign of respect when one band covers another. Plus, it’s always been really exciting to hear someone else do a version of a song you enjoy, as long as it’s done well! And when genres and eras crossover, it makes it even more special.

Think Guns ‘N’ Roses covering Bob Dylan’s “Knockin On Heaven’s Door”, Stevie Wonder covering The Beatles’ “We Can Work It Out”, Johnny Cash covering Nine Inch Nails “Hurt” and so many more we don’t have time to list here.

Well, back in May we caught wind of Weezer doing a special cover of Toto’s classic “Africa” and we freaked out!

Turns out Toto thought it was time to return the favour and what a surprise for the audience at their summer tour kick-off show Monday night… they chose Vancouver to do it!

Toto (who had earlier covered Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature”, The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”) came out for their encore and announced they were debuting a cover of Weezer’s hit “Hash Pipe”!! Turns out they did a pretty good job paying the love back to Weezer.

“We figured since we were smoking hash since before they were born, that’s the one we should do,” guitarist Steve Lukather told the crowd. “This is our tribute to Weezer, god bless ’em.”

Now can someone please cover “Pina Colada”!?
