Soon Canada’s most desired trophy will make its yearly appearance under champagne showers and the joyful tears from another hard-fought season of hockey. That trophy is (of course) the Stanley Cup. It was a tough year again for Canuck fans and even harder to swallow for Winnipeg Jets fans! All we can do now is breathe and say “We’ll get ’em next year!”

What could be helpful during the next few hockey-less months? How about watching my 6 best hockey movies of all time! Strap in my friends, it’s time for another LIST!!!

1. The Mighty Ducks

How can anyone deny love for Coach Bombay and his squad of ragtag street kids that form the perfect flying V and manage to pull the greatest upset in hockey history? (ok that’s a bit of a stretch) Let’s be honest, Gordon Bombay would have been a great modern day NHL GM considering the moves he made to secure the talents of Adam Banks! Everyone thinks the team’s greatness was built on the passion from Charlie Conway and his hot single mom but the truth is the core playmaker was the Gretzky of Philly’s pewee system… Adam Banks!

PS I think I may have taken this movie too seriously.

2. Miracle

OK, love the story or hate the story. if you love hockey it’s a pretty badass movie! And when the movie uses Al Michaels original call of “Do you believe in miracles?”… OMG! Just writing it gives me goosebumps!

3. Happy Gilmore

OK I’m not sure if this film really counts for this list but…never forget that Happy was a hockey player first! He just happened to also swing a golf club. Plus, he jersied a few people and fought Bob Barker in a Bruins jersey (boo Bruins). So that 100% makes it a hockey movie 😉

4. Tooth Fairy

The Rock in a hockey movie? Come on! That’s worth the price of admission without a second thought! Even better, the Rock has to do the work of the tooth fairy because he knocked out too many teeth as a minor league player. This movie mixes hockey with happy family cinema so you can’t go wrong! And again, it’s the Rock!

5. Youngblood

This flick has a slight touch of cheesiness in it but it stars Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves and those two were in Point Break (one of my favourite movies EVER) so by default Youngblood gets in!

DISCLAIMER: This list is just one guy’s opinion 😉

6. Slapshot

Can’t talk hockey movies without this classic. Looking back on my childhood, I can’t believe my parents allowed me to watch this movie. Truthfully the subject matter, the language, and the violence is not at all appropriate for a child! But I did learn how to curse because of the movie. Player-coach Reg Dunlop was the best bench boss ever!

And I have to add a few honourable mentions only because my wife is upset I chose Happy Gilmore and Tooth Fairy over the following:

  • Mystery, Alaska
  • The Cutting Edge
  • Goon
  • Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story

So that’s my list… can you add to it? Hit me up on Instagram and Twitter @kennyonjack and as the ol’ saying always goes…

I LOVE YOUR FACE!!!!
