It was a cold, frosty day in the nation’s capital when I awoke from a long lazy afternoon nap. I was up on my feet, gave my belly a scratch and thought I should check the mail and take Gomez out for a little walk. There it was, almost shivering from its lack of understanding for the harsh Ontario climate, a letter from good old Vancouver. In that letter, I was told by the Treo Gods that my use of the Port Mann Bridge would cost me 162 dollars!

My eyes widened, and my frown turned into a devilish smirk as I crumpled that paper up and said aloud…

“Screw you Treo! I’m never going back!”

But karma has an interesting way of saying ‘hello’!

Little did I know that fate would take me away from Ottawa and back to where my heart was happy – Canada’s west coast, the Fraser Valley to be specific.

And just this week, as I waited at the ICBC licensing office unaware of the swift justice that was about to be bestowed on me, I walked up to the counter expecting to receive my new BC driver’s license until I heard…

“Mr Jones, there’s a hold on this.”

I have no tickets! I have done nothing wrong! There are no more tolls! How can this be??

And it all came back to me, the cold afternoon nap, the devilish smirk and the crumpling of the paper.. and just like that karma reared it’s head in the form of a “hold” and I had to pay up.

Lesson learned … never think you can beat the man!!

And don’t even get me started on out of province inspections. Yeah, because I bought my car in Abbotsford and moved away for 18 months means my car is now an import!

Oh ICBC you are a dear friend…. NOT.

Hoops are things we must hop through to live our lives. I would love to hear your ICBC hoop hopping story!

Love your face!
