“Take a record, leave a record” is the idea behind this retro swap – and we think it’s a great idea!

Matt Durant lives in Toronto and started this initiative after inheriting his father’s record collection and wanting to help others expand their musical horizons. He put a wooden box full of records outside his studio, and says there are no rules when it comes to swapping, he only hopes that enthusiasts will take and leave records as they please.

Durant also hopes that local artists leave some of their material to help promote themselves.

For vinyl collectors wondering, Durant’s thought of everything when it comes to protecting the records from the elements, including rain tests and ensuring the swap box will be well shaded before the heat hits.

There’s been a surge in vinyl sales in Canada over the past couple years, and on a community level, this form of exchange is one way to keep the vinyl revival going.

We think we need one of these vinyl swap boxes in Vancouver! Anyone know if there’s one out there?
