The recent release of U2’s new album Songs of Experience brings the band its eighth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart!

According to this article, in its first week Songs of Experience has netted the biggest week for a rock album in 2017 in terms of overall units and album sales  – the last rock album to come close to U2’s start was Metallica’s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct back in 2016.

 

 

With this latest accomplishment, U2 is now the only band to have a No. 1 album in consecutive decades since the 1980s! The only other acts to earn No. 1s in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s are Janet Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and Barbra Streisand, however, U2 is the first group to pull this off.
