The Summer of Concerts continued on Sunday night, with legend Lionel Richie in town to play Rogers Arena with special guest Mariah Carey. And while Mariah got things started, it was Lionel who had everyone in the building dancing all night long!

Starting with the Commodores classic “Easy”, Lionel got everyone in the mood for all the hits. With some great interaction with the audience and an energetic backing band, the 16 song set seemed to fly by.

By the time Lionel made it to “Brickhouse” the crowd was in full swing and the sing-a-long was in full effect. And check out the sax solo on “Brickhouse”!!

The highlight was definitely when Lionel got behind the piano for “Hello”. It seemed like every person in the arena sang along. That was followed by “Say You, Say Me” and then a surprising rendition of “We Are The World”. Lionel wrote that song with his friend Michael Jackson, and he used the song as an opportunity to remember Michael and all the other greats we’ve lost in the past few years while also reiterating the songs original message of unity.

For the encore, there was only one song left to play: “All Night Long”. It was the perfect ending to a really fun concert. The only drawback was that he didn’t play more music in the encore!

And yes, I bought the Lionel Richie “Hello” sweatshirt, even though I’ll be eating no name brand mac & cheese for the next month in order to cover the cost ;)
