Happy Cinco De Mayo! Many of you will celebrate the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 with a tequila shot or two. But did you know you could be celebrating with a working Fender Stratocaster (the cadillac of guitars) made out of the agave plant? Yep, the Fender Agave Guitar is real!

This beautiful guitar is a collaboration between Fender and Jose Cuervo and is built from agave, the plant used to create tequila. The guitar is totally functional, weighs quite a bit less than a traditional guitar and took over 30 hours to build (plus 5 days to harvest and prepare the agave).

Check out the video on how they built it below:

Here’s a list of just some of the music legends who played a Stratocaster:

  • Randy Bachman
  • Eric Clapton
  • The Edge
  • George Harrison
  • Jimi Hendrix
  • Buddy Holly
  • Alex Lifeson
  • Pete Townshend
  • Eddie Van Halen

And if reading this made you thirsty, here’s a recipe for a Cinco De Mayo Agave Margarita!
