Craig DeGraff is a long-time DM fan, who was introduced to the music through his college girlfriend.

To impress her at the time, he decided to become familiar with the music, and before long, was far more obsessed with the music than she ever was!

This strategy must’ve worked, because they soon got married. (But wait! It gets better!)

His wife’s favourite song by Depeche Mode is ‘But Not Tonight’, but at the time, the band had never played it live. This got DeGraff thinking of the ultimate way he could impress her!

It was a lofty goal, but he was determined!

DeGraff wrote, “I plotted to create a piano version and get it to Martin (Gore) – if he liked it, you never know what could happen.”

After receiving confirmation that the band, in fact, liked this rendition, he knew he had to see their next concert in L.A.

He writes, “Half way through the set Martin walked out for his solo song and, as the opening chords of “But Not Tonight” rang out, I (and the crowd) lost it. The joy in the room was overwhelming and to hear the crowd sing along was a feeling I’ll never forget.”

Here’s the actual performance that Craig DeGraff pulled off for his wife and thousands of other grateful DM fans!

Way to impress!
