To celebrate the 50th anniversary of their songwriting partnership, Elton John and Bernie Taupin gave new filmmakers the chance to bring their directorial flair to one of three timeless Elton hits: Tiny Dancer (1971), Rocket Man (1972) and Bennie and the Jets (1973).

To help the filmmakers along, the duo describe what sparked the song writing process for each of these classics:

Tiny Dancer:

‘Tiny Dancer’ is about beautifully colourful California and their infatuation with the local culture!

Rocket Man:

People mistakenly identify ‘Rocket Man’ with David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ and it wasn’t inspired by that at all. Even Elton John didn’t know the inspiration behind this song!

Bennie and the Jets:

Androgynous, sexy, science fiction; ‘Bennie and the Jets’ is about a fictional girl band. Here’s Elton and Bernie discussing the inspiration behind this song:

The application process has now closed, and a panel of judges will be sifting through all submitted videos! Keep an eye out for Elton John’s first official music videos for ‘Tiny Dancer’, ‘Rocket Man’ and ‘Bennie and the Jets’ – coming soon!
