So far we haven’t heard many details about the second season of the show, that is until David Harbour (who plays Chief of Police Jim Hopper) went and blabbed a little!

But first, a recap of what we do know:

  • We left off with a cliffhanger: Will Byers looking into the mirror and seeing a glimpse of the ‘Upside Down’. The second season will focus on returning to ‘normal’, if that’s possible.
  • Season two will be released in 2017, possibly summer.
  • All of the original cast will be returning.
  • There are some newcomers to the cast: Sean Astin – who will play Bob Newby, a former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour). Paul Reiser – will be known as Dr. Owens; a senior member of the the Department of Energy. Linnea Berthelsen will act as Roman (who has a supernatural streak), Sadie Sink will play Max, and Dacre Montgomery will play Billy or Max’s older brother.

Here’s the new stuff according to David Harbour a.k.a. Chief of Police Jim Hopper:

  • Season 2 will be set a year later: “It’s a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year, like Will has come back.”
  • Many people in the town still don’t know what happened: “There are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don’t know what happened. So there’s a lot of fall out with who knows what.”
  • There’s a new love triangle: “We have Sean Astin… he’s Winona’s new boyfriend — much to the chagrin to the Chief of Police.”
  • Barb is definitely gone, but never forgotten: “The question and the feelings that Nancy has that no one ever cares about her friend Barb, are very much present in the beginning of the season.”
