‘Moonbeam Levels’ was released today – the first piece of previously unreleased material to come after the untimely and shocking death of Prince.

The song was originally recorded in 1982 while Prince was working on ‘1999’, and as Rolling Stone describes best, is “a stomping R&B ballad filled with striving piano, rousing guitar riffs and ecstatic vocal wails.”  Super fans may have heard the material before as some unofficial bootlegged versions exist OR from the cover version Elvis Costello has performed during some live sets.

The song was previewed this morning on ABC News. In the video, you’ll see a handful of super fans who got to sit-in while attending a Listening Party at New York City’s Cutting Room Studios. They also have a group discussion about the artist after the song plays.

‘Moonbeam Levels’ is included on ‘Prince 4ever’ which was also released today, with 40 remastered songs from the late artist. Some of the other numbers included on ‘Prince 4ever’ are hits like ‘Little Red Corvette’, ‘When Doves Cry’, and ‘Raspberry Beret’.
